Roles
Autoroles, button roles, select menus, and role rules.
Start here
Make an autorole or self-service role menu
PulseOne → Dashboard → select your server → Modules → Roles
Choose the server → Modules → Roles. Make sure the PulseOne bot role is ABOVE the role it needs to grant, but below administrator-level roles.
Under Role policies create the role assignment or temporary grant. Under Conflict and capacity groups decide which combinations should be blocked.
For self-service roles, open Self-service role menus, create the menu and connect each option to the intended assignment.
Review Validation, then press Publish configuration. For a role menu also press Publish to Discord and choose its destination.
Click the menu with a normal test account to confirm the role is assigned and removed properly.
Practical example
Create a self-service color-role menu for a nonprivileged role, then try claiming and releasing it with a member account.
Before you begin
- No module dependency listed.
- Discord bot permissions for the operational slice: ManageRoles, ViewChannel, ReadMessageHistory.
- Review staff roles and channel access in your server before using the feature.
Overview of the setup
Before you begin
Place the PulseOne bot role above the roles it will assign. Pick an existing role rather than creating redundant privileged roles.
Configure
Configure autorole, temporary grants or a role menu; choose prerequisites and exclusions for conflicting roles.
Test and verify
Use a regular test member to claim and remove a role, and inspect ownership/reconciliation before publishing widely.
Features explained
What each feature does and what to check before publishing or installing the result.
Autoroles and temporary roles
Choose join-time roles or expiring roles with carefully defined durations and cleanup conditions.
Button and select role menus
Create button/select menus with clear labels and disallow role combinations that should not coexist.
Hierarchy and conflict checks
Hierarchy checks stop PulseOne from assigning protected roles. Test against both a permitted and an out-of-reach target.
If it still does not work
- Role not assigned? Check bot role hierarchy, Manage Roles, eligibility policies and whether the configuration and Discord menu were both published.
- Changing a role policy does not necessarily update a posted role menu; use Update Discord message when applicable.
Troubleshooting and safety checks
- Cannot assign role? Move the bot role higher than the target role; check permissions and menu eligibility.
- If a capability is unavailable in the UI, check the module's current rollout/availability instead of assuming every roadmap item is live.
